Irish ‘Student’ helped Guinness to pass ‘t-test’ and a great Irish gift to the world of statistics.

Did you know that an Irish ‘Student’ helped Guinness to pass the ‘t-test’ to its competitors and made it a gift to the world of statistics?

Just going over some of my advanced statistics notes and researching a little deeper when I came across this very interesting piece of Irish statistical science history about ‘William Sealy Gosset’ and thought I would share – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o89Pla5fABg

On reflection … it seems quite odd that I can find no reference to this great (as if forgotten) Irish quality management statistician working in a great Irish company that produces such a great quality product and has had such a great impact on the world of statistics and yet … I cant find one single mention of Gosset in my core study text from an Irish University! … and you have to wonder how would the world be today without Guinness, William Sealy Gosset and their gift to statistics of the t-test?

So … Raise a glass of Guinness and cheers to an all but forgotten! great Irish statistician who helped Guinness to pass the ‘t-test’ to its competitors and a great Irish gift to the world of statistics.

The End
